Compatibility

  • Olympic bar (~2.2 m) needs clear lateral space beyond the rack uprights — measure bay width before delivery.
  • Bumper plates assume standard Olympic diameter (~450 mm); confirm rack j-cup and storage pin spacing.
  • Flooring must cover the drop zone under the bar path, not only the rack footprint.
  • AB-5000 should centre in the rack for bench press safety pins / spotter arms.

Value paths

  • Barbell platform. Rack + bar + bumpers + flooring — the non-negotiable garage core.
  • Add bench. AB-5000 when pressing volume needs a dedicated adjustable bench in the rack.

The Garage Strength Gym

Each item is selected for a clear role in the setup.

POWER RACK
REP Fitness PR-4000 Power Rack

Full power rack for squats, bench and pulls with safeties in a garage bay.

Why needed.
Heavy barbell work needs a rack, not open-floor hope.
Role in kit.
Structural hub for bar path, bench and attachments.
Trade-offs.
Footprint and height — confirm garage door/ceiling clearance.
Can omit.
Do not omit for this scenario.
Cheaper path.
A simpler squat stand only if you accept fewer safety options.
Upgrade.
Add attachments (lat, monopost) once the core lifts are habitual.
Compatibility.
Confirm upright spacing and j-cup height range work with Ohio bar and AB-5000 bench.

ADJUSTABLE BENCH
REP Fitness AB-5000 Zero Gap Bench

Heavy adjustable bench that centres in the PR-4000 for flat/incline pressing.

Why needed.
Garage pressing needs a bench that does not skate under load.
Role in kit.
Supported press positions inside the rack.
Trade-offs.
Larger than apartment benches — measure storage when not in use.
Can omit.
Omit only if you already own a rack-compatible FID bench.
Cheaper path.
Mirafit FID for lighter pressing before upgrading.
Upgrade.
Specialty competition bench later if you specialise in powerlifting.
Compatibility.
Centre in PR-4000; set safeties just under chest height for bench.

BARBELL
Rogue Ohio Bar
Rogue Ohio Bar9.0Excellent

Olympic-length multipurpose bar for squats, presses, pulls and Olympic variations.

Why needed.
The bar is the interface between plates and every lift.
Role in kit.
Loading tool across the rack system.
Trade-offs.
Not a dedicated powerlifting or WL specialist bar — versatile by design.
Can omit.
Do not omit.
Cheaper path.
Rogue Ohio Power if you only care about strength lifts.
Upgrade.
Specialty bars (power, WL) once goals narrow.
Compatibility.
Needs ~2.2 m clear width; sleeves fit standard Olympic bumpers (50 mm).

BUMPER PLATES
REP Fitness Black Bumper Plate Set

Bumper plates for garage drops and Olympic-diameter loading on the Ohio bar.

Why needed.
Iron-only plates punish garage floors and limit drop training.
Role in kit.
Load increments on the Olympic bar.
Trade-offs.
Thicker than iron — sleeve space limits total load before change plates.
Can omit.
Do not omit if you plan to drop or learn Olympic lifts.
Cheaper path.
Rogue Echo bumpers if Rep stock is unavailable.
Upgrade.
Add kilo change plates for finer jumps.
Compatibility.
Standard bumper diameter (~450 mm) and 50 mm centre bore for Olympic bars; drop only onto flooring.

  • Olympic diameter for consistent bar height

FLOORING
Rogue Gym Flooring / Stall Mat Style Flooring

Dense rubber flooring to protect the slab and quiet bumper drops in a garage bay.

Why needed.
Bumpers on bare concrete crack floors and annoy neighbours.
Role in kit.
Protective base under rack and bar path.
Trade-offs.
Cost and coverage area — do not under-tile the pull zone.
Can omit.
Do not omit before bumper drops.
Cheaper path.
Horse-stall mats cut to the drop zone if budget forces it.
Upgrade.
Thicker platforms under the pull area for frequent max deadlifts.
Compatibility.
Cover rack footprint plus full bar drop path; bumpers land on rubber, not slab edges.
